Make a comment Home of the Week: Unique Pasadena Home Located on Madeline Drive, Pasadena Ed Tech Committee Chair Victor Gordo[UPDATED: Includes Thursday’s local Coronavirus numbers]As the Economic Development and Technology (EDTEC) Committee began discussing changing the city’s Safer at Home order, city health officials confirmed two more deaths on Thursday and confirmed 15 more cases bringing the local numbers to 65 deaths and 516 confirmed cases of the Coronavirus. The changes could allow a limited group of businesses — toy stores, bookstores, clothing stores, sporting goods stores, music stores, and florists — to reopen.Mayor Terry Tornek said the City Council meeting will have a narrow focus.“The council made it clear that it wants to be engaged in the process and be well informed every step of the way,” Tornek said. “The conclusion was that since the public health officer’s order governing what businesses can be open and under what circumstances is going to be changed to conform with what the state is permitting and what the county health officer is allowing that we should inform the council and make sure that they are in accord with it.”The EDTECH meeting began at 3:15 p.m, and the City Council met immediately afterwards. The meetings marked the city’s continued progression into its economic recovery phase, while health officials battle to curb the spread of the Coronavirus in the city’s long term health facilities.“I will urge our city staff to ensure that the safety of our residents and persons who work in Pasadena be given priority in regard to any actions recommended or taken, while we address the economic crisis created by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said EDTECH Chair Victor Gordo. “As we work to move safely to this next phase, we must pull together to ensure we protect the public’s health and welfare, while providing much needed relief to our residents, local businesses, and the local economy.”Local residents can comment online.Councilman John Kennedy said the community needs to continue to look at the data.“If there are opportunities where we can comfortably move beyond the predicate of safety of our residents and our visitors and provide measured openings in the city of Pasadena’s various businesses, still keeping the required distancing and covering, then we need to do that,” Kennedy said.Kennedy said he was concerned certain leaders are not necessarily looking at the science as they make decisions related to what is in the best interest of their respective communities.“I think for our community it would be irresponsible not to look at the data and let the data and the science dictate the decisions that we make collectively as a council,” Kennedy said. “I’m confident that the mayor and my colleagues and I will do just that.”The meeting comes on the same day Gov. Gavin Newsom is scheduled to give guidelines to communities for reopening low risk businesses as the state moves to Stage 2 of the plan to reopen the state. The city has been all but shut down since the city, along with the county and the state, issued orders requiring all non-essential businesses to close to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.Although those orders potentially saved thousands of lives, they decimated the economy and have left some businesses particular restaurants on the brink of shuttering for good.A member of the Pasadena Health Department told Pasadena Now on Monday that the department would be part of the process.“The virus continues to be present in our community but we understand the need to evaluate restrictions,” said Manuel Carmona. “In the days to come, the Health Department will help the city assess activities for their level of risk and begin considering easing restrictions for the lowest risk activities. The Health Department will be on the ready, closely monitoring data in the event we start to see cases rise again.” HerbeautyHe Is Totally In Love With You If He Does These 7 ThingsHerbeautyHerbeautyHerbeauty15 things only girls who live life to the maximum understandHerbeautyHerbeautyHerbeauty6 Strong Female TV Characters Who Deserve To Have A SpinoffHerbeautyHerbeautyHerbeauty8 Easy Exotic Meals Anyone Can MakeHerbeautyHerbeautyHerbeautyThe Most Heartwarming Moments Between Father And DaughterHerbeautyHerbeautyHerbeauty15 Countries Where Men Have Difficulties Finding A WifeHerbeautyHerbeauty More Cool Stuff Subscribe Name (required) Mail (required) (not be published) Website Top of the News Your email address will not be published. Science Daily 5 Feb 2013High levels of drinking have repeatedly been shown to predict divorce. The most cited explanation for this is that excessive alcohol use disrupts daily tasks and functioning, and increases spousal conflicts. A study of the effects of drinking among husbands versus wives, and of similar versus dissimilar drinking in couples, has found that both level of drinking and compatibility in drinking can have an influence on divorce. Results will be published in the May 2013 issue of Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research and are currently available at Early View. “On average, divorced people drink more than married people,” said Fartein Ask Torvik, a researcher at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health as well as corresponding author for the study. “To some extent, this is due to increased drinking after a divorce, but people who drink heavily also have a higher risk of experiencing a divorce, so heavy drinking likely interferes fundamentally with the quality of marriage.”…”Essentially, the more people drink, the higher is the risk of divorce,” said Torvik. “In addition, the risk of divorce is lowered if the spouses drink approximately the same amount of alcohol. This is not only true for those who drink excessively — there is also a reduced risk of divorce if both spouses abstain totally from alcohol. Also, we found heavy drinking among women to be more strongly associated with divorce than heavy drinking among men.””This latter finding is of major interest,” said Major. “For instance, the risk of divorce is estimated to be tripled when the husband’s level drinking is low and the wife’s drinking is heavy, compared with couples where both drink lightly.””There are several possible explanations for this,” said Torvik. “One of them is that women in general seem to be more strongly affected by heavy drinking than men are. Thus, heavy-drinking women may be more impaired than heavy-drinking men. It is, however, important to note that heavy drinking is much less common among women than among men.””Heavy drinking among women is also less acceptable than among men in our society,” said Major. “A wife’s heavy drinking probably also interferes more with general family life — that is, the caring role of the mother, upbringing of children, etc.http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2013/02/130205162519.htm

Dominica’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Vince HendersonDominica’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Vince Henderson has denied that Dominica signed unto a communiqué with ALBA calling for the immediate withdrawal of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) from member countries of the alliance. The ALBA communiqué was published in the Cuban newspaper Granma as well as Aletho News website. The communiqué indicated that USAID participates in “open interference” in the internal politics of the ALBA countries, under the excuse of “planning and administering economic and humanitarian assistance for the whole world outside of the United States,” financing non-governmental organizations and actions and projects designed to destabilize the legitimate governments which do not share their common interests. It said the foreign ministers of ALBA met in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on June 21 and resolved to immediately expel USAID and its delegates or representatives from their countries, due to the fact that they consider their presence and actions to constitute an interference which threatens the sovereignty and stability of our nations. It listed the governments of Bolivia, Cuba, Ecuador, Dominica, Nicaragua and Venezuela as having signed the resolution. However Dominica’s Ambassador to the United Nations Vince Henderson who formed part of the Rio de Janeiro delegation told the Next Level radio program on Saturday, June 23rd, 2012 that Dominica did not sign the document.“I was responsible for coordinating the meetings of the delegation and the prime minister informed me that we should not mention anything about the situation and we shouldn’t sign unto anything like that,” he said.Henderson also noted that the way in which ALBA operates may have to be “looked into”.Meanwhile, ALBA Coordinator and Ambassador to Venezuela, Dr. Philbert Aaron who did not attend the meeting said he did not have anything to add to what Ambassador Henderson said. Stoke-on-Trent, United Kingdom | AFP | Arsenal head to Stoke City this weekend aiming to register a second victory of the season and divert attention away from continuing questions about the future of Alexis Sanchez.Arsene Wenger’s side kicked off the Premier League campaign in exciting, if not entirely convincing, fashion against Leicester City, coming from behind to register a 4-3 victory thanks to a late Olivier Giroud winner.Sanchez, currently sidelined by an abdominal injury, is out of contract at the end of the season, but despite interest in him from a number of clubs, Wenger would rather lose him for nothing next year than sell him now.“We have to make a choice between efficiency on the field and financial interest and most of the time if you can find a good compromise, it’s better,” said the Arsenal manager.“But in this case, I think I prioritise the fact that he will be useful on the sporting side.”The win over Leicester was the kind of performance that suggested the inconsistencies that dogged Arsenal last term have not gone away.Wenger will hope a repeat of last season’s victory at the bet365 stadium will make a more compelling case for his side to be considered strong title contenders. But their status among the leading clubs will not be confirmed until the transfer window has passed, with Mesut Ozil and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain among the players who are also out of contract at the end of the season. And as far as Wenger is concerned, Sanchez, Ozil and Oxlade-Chamberlain will stay, even if that means they will be allowed to leave for free at the end of the campaign. For now, Wenger’s focus remains on the trip to Stoke, where Arsenal won for the first time in seven attempts last May. Alexis Sanchez– Jese debut –“We had a convincing win there and that should inspire us,” said the Frenchman.“I don’t believe in bogey teams too much. We had a good performance last season and we have to focus on that, just to deal with the same performance.“Stoke have a good record at home against many teams and I’m convinced that if we play our game, we have a good chance of winning.”Stoke began their testing early-season schedule with a 1-0 defeat at Everton last weekend.Saturday’s meeting with Arsenal is followed by a trip to West Bromwich Albion and a home game against Manchester United.Manager Mark Hughes can at least call upon new signing Jese Rodriguez this weekend after the Spanish striker completed a season-long loan move from Paris Saint-Germain.“I have never had an opportunity like this here so I am very happy to have the chance to show what I can do,” said Jese, who failed to impose himself at PSG after signing from Real Madrid last year.“I want to work hard and help the team. I have chosen Stoke because it is a team that wants to grow and evolve in the Premier League and to reach the European spots.“I feel we have got the right players to reach those objectives and to inspire the Stoke City fans.”Share on: WhatsApp

One is to sign good players and the second is training, but having time together is always good. You don’t have time together in football, usually, but we had it then, which was really good.”We don’t start at minus 20 and say ‘by the way, set-piece, we do this, we do that’ and you have to explain to six players and you think ‘oh God!’. Having a basis is brilliant, but you need world-class players and if they are not world-class already, they need the world-class potential. That is what we need at a club like Liverpool.”I think that is what we tried to do and it I think it worked pretty well. All the boys have improved a lot since we were together and that is what you have to do. So whatever we achieved, we did it because the boys always took the next steps, got more mature, got more confident and more convinced about the way we play.”I think meanwhile, it becomes really natural for the boys and that is so important. For us, our big target was to qualify for the Champions League and it was clear we wanted to do that. But it’s the most difficult league to do this in, in England but it happened somehow.”

NEW YORK, N.Y. – NBC News opened the new year Tuesday by appointing Hoda Kotb as co-anchor of the “Today” show’s first two hours with Savannah Guthrie, replacing Matt Lauer following his firing on sexual misconduct charges in late November.Kotb, 53, will continue to co-host the show’s fourth hour with Kathie Lee Gifford. It will be the first all-female team headlining “Today” in the show’s 65-year history. Diane Sawyer and Robin Roberts blazed that path for ABC’s “Good Morning America” in the 2000s, but morning shows have traditionally paired a man and a woman as host. With an audience dominated by women in an era where news of badly behaving men is frequent, the Guthrie-Kotb pairing may be particularly timely.“Today” won’t be an all-female zone in its first half, however, with longtime weather forecaster Al Roker and correspondent Carson Daly as regulars. Megyn Kelly hosts the show’s third hour.“This has to be the most popular decision NBC News has ever made and I am so thrilled,” Guthrie said on Tuesday, announcing the appointment on the air.“I am pinching myself,” said a beaming Kotb, sitting beside her. “I think we should send some medics to Alexandria, Virginia, where my mom has likely fainted.”Lauer’s eventual replacement had long been the subject of internal angst but with a sudden decision forced upon the network, Kotb’s performance made it easier. She’s subbed for Lauer since the day he was fired and “Today” has won four straight weeks in the ratings, after having spent much of the past few years in second behind ABC.“Hoda has seamlessly stepped into the co-anchor role alongside Savannah, and the two have quickly hit the ground running,” NBC News Chairman Andy Lack said in a memo to staff on Tuesday. “They have an undeniable connection with each other and most importantly, with viewers, a hallmark of ‘Today.’”Lack said Kotb “has the rare ability to share authentic and heartfelt moments in even the most difficult news circumstances. It’s a tribute to her wide range and her innate curiosity.”It’s common for television shows with job openings to hold informal tryouts of potential hosts. With Kotb’s immediate success, potential replacements like Willie Geist or Craig Melvin didn’t get that chance.Lauer had been a fixture at “Today” since the mid-1990s before his abrupt firing for what NBC called “inappropriate sexual behaviour” with a colleague. Other complaints and reports of crude behaviour followed. He was the second television morning host fired in a week, after CBS News axed Charlie Rose just before Thanksgiving on sexual misconduct charges. Rose was one of three “CBS This Morning” hosts with Gayle King and Norah O’Donnell, and CBS has yet to name his replacement. Substitutes have included Vladimir Duthiers, Bianna Golodryga, Dana Jacobsen, John Dickerson and Anthony Mason.Kotb joined NBC News in 1998 as a “Dateline NBC” correspondent, after working in local news in New Orleans. Her public profile increased with her wine-soaked pairing with Gifford on the show’s informal fourth hour. She was born in Norman, Oklahoma, to parents of Egyptian descent, and raised in Morgantown, West Virginia.Ben Bogardus, a journalism professor at Connecticut’s Quinnipiac University, said Kotb’s selection was a good one “because it reinforces the sense of a family coming together after a shared trauma.” The timing is important for NBC, because “Today” will get a burst of attention next month with the Winter Olympics.
