THE construction of a massive headquarters being built by the Guyana Olympic AssociationGOA president K JumanYassin(GOA) was recently given a shot in the arm as the Pan American Sports Organisation (PASO) has agreed to release $US200,000 (G$40M) to the local association to assist in the completion of the building.GOA president K. Juman Yassin made the disclosure at the last monthly General Council meeting which was held on the bottom floor of the Liliendaal building earlier this month.The funding is the first from PASO and was acquired following a year-long campaign by Yassin.It adds to the G$153M already spent by GOA on the structure. When completed the two-story facility is set to house over 10 rooms, including a museum, several conference rooms, and offices in addition to a kitchen and three self-contained apartments on the lower level.Upstairs will comprise two patios for hosting social events, another three self-contained apartments and a spacious hall that is expected to seat approximately 400 persons.The GOA commenced construction approximately five years ago and Yassin assured that once more funding is available for the G$300M building which should be completed within 36 months and be available to all sport disciplines.The GOA plans to host Wednesday’s Annual General Meeting at the headquarters.
