Pakistan to make day-night Test debut against Australia

first_imgPakistan have confirmed their participation in their first ever day-night Test against Australia. The match will be played in Brisbane from December 15-19 this year.Pakistan will tour Australia later this year for a three-Test series (in  Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney) and five ODIs.This development comes in the back of South Africa’s refusal to play a day-night Test against the Australia in Adelaide. The first ever day-night test was staged at the Adelaide Oval last year, with Australia beating New Zealand in a low-scoring match using a pink ball.It was a TV ratings success and attracted a record crowd for a non-Ashes test in Adelaide, but players from both teams had concerns about the pink ball and its visibility and movement at certain times of the game. The South African players’ association has expressed reservations about playing a day-night test with a pink ball and there’s no agreement yet that the third test of the series will be played under those conditions. The concept was widely successful and it was expected that two day-night Tests would feature in the 2016-17 fixture in Australia. However, the Proteas were reluctant because they thought it could be a disadvantage for them.Incidentally, Pakistan wanted to host a day-night Test in the UAE back in the summer of 2013-14, but Sri Lanka declined because of lack of practice with the pink ball.(With inputs from AP)last_img
