Thelma ‘Marie’ Creed, 98, Caldwell: Jan. 8, 1917 – May 1, 2015

first_imgThelma Marie CreedThelma Marie Kibbe was born on January 8, 1917 on a farm southeast of Clearwater in rural Sumner County.  She was born to Flossie (Dunham) Kibbe and Merritt Kibbe.  Marie was the oldest of 7 children.  Marie attended several rural one room schools and then Anson High School.  Marie graduated from Conway Springs High School with the class of 1935.In May of 1939, Marie married Grant Creed and they made their home on a farm southeast of Conway Springs.  In 1947, Grant and Marie moved to their farm south of Anson.  Their daughter Brenda was born in 1948 and their son Lonnie in 1951. Marie was a farm wife and mother and for many years sold Tupperware.  Baking pies was her specialty and at the age of 90, she was still baking pies for Brenda and Gary’s Sale Barn.In 1971, she and Grant moved to their new home in Anson.  Grant died in November of 1994.  In 1996, Marie moved to Caldwell to be closer to her family.  In 2011, she moved to the Goodrich home in Caldwell and in 2013 she moved to Sugs Care Home in Conway Springs.  This past February, she again moved back to Caldwell to Marsha Sandoval’s care home where she passed away at the age of 98 years and 4 months.Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Grant; six brothers and sisters; and her daughter Brenda Davis.She is survived by her son Lonnie and his wife Diane of Caldwell; her son-in-law Gary Davis also of Caldwell;  four grandchildren and their spouses, Chad and Debbie Davis, Jarrod and Ginger Davis, Kendal and Angie Creed and Kelsey and Bryan Weems; 14 great-grand children, Dakota and Clarissa Davis, Ethan, Tyson, Tabias, Aspen and Lakin Davis, Allyssa, Grant, Audrey and Brody Davis, Adrianna Anson and Karter Creed;  one great-great grandbaby, Kolver Davis; and many nieces, nephews and friends.The family would like to especially thank Charles and Verla Crow, Marsha Sandoval and Diane Hiser for the wonderful care they each gave our Mother and Grandmother.Funeral Services will be held at the Corbin United Methodist Church in Corbin, KS on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at 10:30 A.M.  Pastor Jacob Maforo and Pastor Jan McDaniel will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Austin Cemetery in Anson, KS.Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, May 4, 2015 from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M.  The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.Memorials have been established with the Corbin Methodist Church and the Caldwell Care Network.
