Inishowen community gets its own life-saving defibrillator

first_imgGreencastle and the surrounding areas is a safer place to be after the launch of the local community centre’s 24/7 accessible defibrillator.Indeed, the whole Community now has the security of knowing that the equipment is on hand in the case of sudden cardiac arrest.Greencastle Community Centre proudly launched their 24/7 accessible defibrillator this week after a hugely successful fundraising campaign. “The local Community really got behind this campaign and we are very proud to be able to offer this life saving piece of equipment, with 24/7 accessibility here at the Centre” said Centre Chairperson Pat Gill.The HeartStart Automated External Defibrillator is located in a heated outdoor case in a prominent location at the front of the Community Centre and is accessed by entering a code on the digital keypad which is obtained by dialing 999 or 112.The Defibrillator is designed to be safe, reliable and extremely easy to use, featuring automatic features like voice prompts and CPR coaching to help guide anyone step-by-step through the treatment of sudden cardiac arrest.“It’s fantastic to have this lifesaving equipment here in the Community and we owe a huge thanks to our staff, volunteers, local businesses and of course the local community for their continued support. “A special word of thanks is owed to Lesley Drennan who got the ball rolling with this fundraising effort, also Cardiac Services for providing the AED and case at a reduced price and especially to electricians Stephen and Hugh Harkin for installing the heated outdoor defibrillator case completely free of charge!
