State of emergency extended by another month from today

The state of emergency was declared soon after the April 21st suicide attacks for a period of one month and has been extended since then. (Colombo Gazette) President Maithripala Sirisena has extended the state of emergency by another month with effect from today.A gazette notice was issued today announcing the extension of the state of emergency. The notice by the President said “I am of the opinion that by the reason of a public emergency in Sri Lanka, it is expedient, so to do, in the interest of public security, the preservation of public order and the maintenance of supplies and services essential to the life of the community; Know ye that, I, Maithripala Sirisena, President, by virtue of the powers vested in me by section 2 of the Public Security Ordinance (Chapter 40) as amended by Act, No. 8 of 1959, Law No. 6 of 1978 and Act, No. 28 of 1988, do by this Proclamation declare that the provisions of Part II of that Ordinance, shall come into operation throughout Sri Lanka on and after June 22, Two Thousand and Nineteen.”
